Ethereum Updates

Every month, the official @ethereum account on X shares a summary of the most important developments in the ecosystem. In August, the news ranged from historical records to product launches and technical improvements that showcase the diversity and vitality of the network.

Below, we present a selection and translation of some of the updates we believe might be of interest.

Governance and participation

Tools for private onchain voting continue to advance. Aragon Project and Privacy Ethereum introduced their tool based on zkMACI technology, enabling DAOs to vote in an encrypted and verifiable way. Another step toward safer and more transparent digital governance.

Gaming and entertainment

Ronin Network, known for games like Axie Infinity, announced it is becoming an Ethereum Layer 2. This means one of the world’s largest gaming ecosystems is directly connecting to Ethereum, strengthening its technological foundation.

Decentralized Finance (DeFi)

The supply of stablecoins on Ethereum reached a historic record of $160 billion.

Aave Labs introduced Horizon RWA, a marketplace where institutions can borrow stablecoins using real-world assets as collateral.

PayPal reported that its stablecoin PYUSD processed $10.7 billion in quarterly transfers, up from $2.7 billion during the same period last year.

Aave reached $60 billion in net deposits.

Ostium Labs, on Arbitrum, surpassed $15 billion in cumulative trading volume.

Capmoney launched cUSD, a new stablecoin that reached $67 million in circulation in its first week, backed by assets such as PYUSD (PayPal) and BUIDL (BlackRock).

Giza, an onchain AI agent protocol, surpassed $1 billion in autonomous volume, built on Base.

Uniswap reached a record of 719 million swaps in a single year.

Technological innovation

Starknet released the Grinta upgrade, improving user experience and bringing the network closer to a more decentralized validation system.

AskVenice, a private and censorship-free AI application, launched on Base, an Ethereum Layer 2 network.

Glow unveiled its V2 to bring solar farms onchain, featuring tokenized incentives, staking, and transparent environmental impact metrics.

RAILGUN surpassed $100 million in protected value and $3.5 billion in private volume, highlighting the importance of privacy on Ethereum.

Taiko activated preconfirmations on its mainnet Alethia, speeding up transactions by 20–30 times without compromising its commitment to Ethereum values.

Worldcoin verified 15 million human identities, demonstrating the scalability of proof-of-humanity on blockchain.

Daydreams Agents launched “Router” on Base, enabling USDC payments and API access for AI agents on Ethereum.

Community and events

EthCC, one of the largest community conferences, announced that its ninth edition will take place in Cannes, from March 30 to April 2, 2026.

In New York, the community gathered at Ethereum NYC and ETHGlobal NYC, with events such as NextFin, the Research Funding Forum, and World of Apps.

ETHGlobal announced EthereumConf, a conference for 5,000 people in June 2026 in New York, focused on the future of Ethereum.
